All meters must be installed horizontally, and not more than 18 inches from the point where the service line enters the structure. All meters must be installed in such a manner and place that will allow ready access for meter readers. Meters must not be installed in crawl spaces.
Shut-off Valves
Each meter must have a nonplastic shut-off valve installed on the inlet side. Meters larger than 5/8 inch must also have a shut-off valve installed on the outlet side.
When splitting water services, there must be a main shut-off valve and an individual shut-off valve for each meter. Each meter constitutes a separate water service. No cross-connects between services are permissible.
Pit Meter Installation Requirements
All meters, meter setters, pit boxes and pit covers must be obtained through, or approved by the City of Galion Meter Department. A meter service charge must be paid and a contract signed before service is turned on.
All pit meters must be installed using a meter setter. If multiple meters are used in 1 pit, each meter setter must be equipped with a shut-off valve. The pit must be installed no more than 4 feet from the city's curb valve. Copper tubing must be used to connect the curb valve to the meter setter.
Any exceptions to the information above, require the written approval of an authorized employee of the City of Galion Meter Department.
